The Express Entry Immigration System

Free Assessment

Canada Express Entry Immigration

The Canadian government recognizes the potential for immigration to meet the increasing needs of the current and future labour force. This is because there is a lack of available Canadian skilled workers. Talk to a immigration consultant in Toronto to understand the process. Through the Express Entry system, skilled and qualified foreigners are selected by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and recruited under federal economic immigration programs. This includes:

  • the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP);
  • the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) and;
  • the Canadian Experience Class (CEC).

Through the Express Entry program, immigration to Canada can become a much more simple and smooth transition.

Overview

1. Applicants will begin by filling out the Express Entry form online.

  • This will gather various details regarding eligibility in order to determine whether they are skilled and qualified for employment in Canada.
  • Those who meet the criteria under the Canadian federal economic immigration programs will be sorted into the Express Entry Pool.

2. The applicant’s general information is gathered and assessed through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).

  • Applicants will be awarded points based on an assessment of their skills, qualifications and assets.
  • Through this system, employers and provincial Canadian governments can search and find the most valuable candidates.

3. Based on their ranking, applicants will be invited to fill out an application for permanent residence in Canada.

  • Those selected to apply for permanent residence will be processed within six months.

4. Upon arrival, the applicant will secure employment within Canada.

  • While it may be beneficial to secure an employment offer beforehand, this is not a requirement.

The Express Entry Process

Step 1: Create and post an online profile

  • Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for entry (age, work experience, educational attainment, language proficiency) are able to submit a profile within the Express Entry Pool.
  • The applicant’s general information will be assessed through the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
  • Points are awarded based on the assessment of the applicant’s individual criteria and expected potential contribution upon arrival in Canada.

Step 2: Receive an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residency

Candidates with the highest amount of points may be invited to fill out an application for Canadian permanent residency. These invitations are generated and issued periodically throughout the year. Candidates must submit their applications within 90 days from when the initial invitation was issued. Applicants and their dependent relatives have a 6-month processing wait time.

If an invitation is not received:

A candidate’s profile is stored within the Express Entry Pool for 12 months. If an invitation to apply for permanent residence is not issued during this period, candidates may re-submit their profile (provided they maintain the minimum qualification criteria).

Step 3: Secure employment in Canada

A wide variety of Canadian employers have turned to immigrant skilled workers to meet their labour needs. This is due to a lack of availability from local candidates. These employers may provide job offers to applicants in the Express Entry Pool. Listed below are a few of the job offer categories and their corresponding awarded points:

  • Provincial nomination candidates receive 600 points
  • Managerial position candidates receive 200 points (National Occupation Classification (NOC) 00)
  • “Other” job offer candidates receive 50 points (NOC O, A, B)

Canadian Employers: Hire a Foreign Worker

Express Entry offers employers in Canada a simple, fast and effective method of hiring qualified workers. When facing a lack of available Canadian skilled workers, employers may utilize this system to accommodate their labour needs.

The Express Entry system has a feature that enables employers to engage in a pre-screening of potential candidates. Immigrants with relevant skill-sets may be selected and evaluated with regards to their language work history, educational attainment and language proficiency. This is a valuable tool for employers because they are not required to pay government fees when accessing potential employees through the system. Additionally, the process will be completed quickly for the employer’s convenience.

Hiring through Express Entry: Qualifications

Canadian official employers, as well as provincial and federal governments, are approved employers who may hire candidates through the Express Entry Pool. If there are no qualified Canadian employees available at the time of need, employers may look to the Express Entry Pool for potential candidates.
